Sq/L. Pemberton of No. 1 Squadron chases a ME109 of 8th Staffel 3 Gruppe JG3, which had attacked his Squadron’s aircraft over Southend in the evening engagement. He then got on the tail of this aircraft and pursued it at treetop level across Kent, eventually managing to shoot it down near Staplehurst. Pemberton was killed when his Hurricane's engine failed shortly after take off on 3rd November 1940.
